Police fatally shoot Terre Haute man during chase
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police are investigating the fatal police shooting of a Terre Haute man who led officers on a car chase and rammed their squad cars with his vehicle.
Sgt. Joe Watts says a Terre Haute police officer fatally shot 31-year-old Alexander Long on Wednesday afternoon in a busy neighborhood in the western Indiana city near a school, churches and businesses because officers felt threatened.
The Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1FxeKcu ) police were trying to arrest Long on a warrant charging him with rape, criminal confinement and domestic battery
Watts says Long began ramming his car into police cars and refused to obey officers' commands. An officer shot Long in the chest when he apparently made a threatening move with his hands inside his car. He was later pronounced dead.
