Woman sentenced for hit-and-run deaths of 2 college students

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - A 64-year-old woman has been sentenced to seven to 21 years in prison for the hit-and-run deaths of two college students walking along a Hudson Valley road last year.

Local media report that Carol Boeck of Red Hook wept during her sentencing Tuesday in Dutchess County Court, where last month she pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a personal injury automobile accident.

Police say Boeck's blood-alcohol contact was nearly three times over the legal limit when her vehicle struck 19-year-old Sarah McCausland of Winnetka, Illinois, and 20-year-old Evelina Brown of Seattle as the Bard College students walked along Route 9G in the village of Tivoli on the night of Jan. 31, 2014. A third student was injured.

Boeck didn't stop and was later located by police at a nearby gas station.
