La Porte County school shutdown after bullet found

LA PORTE, Ind. (AP) - A northwest Indiana school was placed on lockdown after a student found a .22-caliber bullet in the girls' physical education locker room.

The bullet found early Wednesday at South Central High School in Union Mills in La Porte County was turned over to a staff member. The school was immediately placed on lockdown.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Department says investigators conducted a search of every student locker and the physical education lockers, but no other bullets or weapons were found and the lockdown was lifted.

The incident at the school was the second this week involving a bullet found at a La Porte County school.

A bullet was found at New Prairie High School on Tuesday, prompting a lockdown and search. No other bullets or weapons were found.
