Parents must learn from bad decisions

I was shocked and saddened upon hearing the news of the JRW Little League team being stripped of their championship title. Regardless of the motive for the challenge, if the allegations prove to be true, the right decision was made. Justice needs to begin somewhere.

Yes, it is unfortunate that the kids have to suffer the brunt of that decision when all they did was to go out and play ball. It's too bad that adults have to make bad decisions in hopes of attaining victory. The end did not justify the means.

It is nothing new that kids suffer because of bad decisions. Look at all the kids whose parents are incarcerated, i.e. Rod Blagojevich, Jesse Jackson Jr. Any adult, politician, clergy, celebrity or parent who attempts to rationalize and support these bad decisions should be ashamed of themselves. They should applaud and defend the justice administered by the Little League Organization.

While the focus is on the kids who made the team, what about the kids who came up a little short and missed out on this opportunity because adults cheated? They deserve opportunity, too.

Somewhere along life's journey, integrity needs to be restored. This incident is a small step in the right direction. There is a price for wrong doing and while it is the kids who are disappointed, the adults should be embarrassed. I'm confident that these kids have learned but I wonder if the adults did.

A Bible verse was constantly on my mind as I was raising my kids: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Just think, training our children to make good, honorable and right decisions. How's your training? Are you teaching right decisions or wrong decisions?"
