Sterling plans to add Lincoln mural
STERLING, Ill. (AP) - Planners in Sterling want to add a mural of Abraham Lincoln near a local site known for a bit of Lincoln-related history.
Janna Groharing is executive director of Sterling Main Street. She told Sauk Valley Media (http://bit.ly/1A0wDAu ) that the Sterling Mural Society has started raising money to pay for the planned "Lincoln in Sterling" mural.
The mural is tentatively planned for a wall of a building near the Lincoln-Manahan Home Museum.
Lincoln stayed in the home of the local Manahan family on a visit to Sterling in 1856. The Sterling- Rock Falls Historical Society maintains the home as a museum.
The Lincoln mural would be the 20th mural in town. All are part of a 20-year-old project to decorate the town with murals.
