Grayslake considering incentives to lure new car dealers

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (AP) - The northern Illinois village of Grayslake is considering financial incentives to lure auto dealerships.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that (http://bit.ly/17iTufb ) village officials believe auto dealers would create jobs and increase local tax revenue. They've developed a list of potential incentives that include sales tax rebates, property tax abatements, permit waivers and infrastructure assistance.

Village Manager Mike Ellis says locating auto dealers in the same place helps strengthen business for all of them.

Officials hope the effort will mirror the success of similar effort to lure hotels.

The proposal comes after the village board recently approved an ordinance allowing creation of a sales tax in a new business district at the former Lake County fairgrounds site.

Economic Development Commission Chairman Phil Harris says the effort isn't a sure thing.
