Georgia moves closer to indoor practice facility

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity says plans are moving quickly for an indoor practice facility to be built near the Butts-Mehre football facility on campus.

The matter was discussed at the Georgia Athletic Association's board of directors quarterly meeting on Tuesday. McGarity says he expects the facility, which also will be used for other sports, will cost about $30 million.

Georgia is one of the last Southeastern Conference schools without an indoor practice facility for football in bad weather. The team sometimes takes buses to the Atlanta Falcons' indoor facility, almost an hour away in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

Though no timetable has been set for the project, McGarity said "we are moving very quickly, as quickly as possible."

The board last year approved $400,000 for initial research into facility.
