Illinois troops to help with Afghanistan drawdown

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - City officials in Chicago are warning that if residents want to keep those lawn chairs, milk crates and bar stools they've used to claim parking spots they better move them.

The unit is deploying for about nine months as part of Operation Resolute Support. The soldiers will briefly train in Texas before heading to Afghanistan, where they will help with logistics and the drawdown of U.S. forces.

A deployment ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 17 at Camp Lincoln.

The soldiers are a part of the 232nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, which is based in Springfield. Camp Lincoln is home to the Illinois National Guard headquarters and the Illinois National Guard Military Academy.
