Strong policies needed on campus rape

I am a Vanderbilt alumnus and most proud of Vanderbilt's stance regarding sexual violence.

Two of the six football players accused as rapists and other deviant activities were convicted last month. The others will be tried at a later date, and all involved were expelled earlier.

The vice chancellor said, "Incidents will be investigated, victims will be supported, and perpetrators will be punished. We will also continue our comprehensive ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the importance of every Vanderbilt student intervening when another student is at risk or in distress."

Hopefully other schools, including the so-called elite schools, will take notice and no longer "sweep the sexual violence charges under the rug" or intimidate the accuser as they have in the past.

Actions speak louder than words.
