More access for youth turkey hunting in Illinois this season
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - There will be additional access for youth turkey hunting in Illinois this spring thanks to a federal grant.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says it received $1.7 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The IDNR says its accepting applications from young turkey hunters to hunt on private land on sites in 28 counties. Hunters under age 16 who have passed a hunter safety course are eligible. The deadline is Feb. 27 for the youth season.
The opportunity is being offered through the department's Illinois Recreational Access Program.
