Authorities arrest 4 in string of Detroit-area ATM thefts

DETROIT (AP) - Authorities say they've arrested four people in connection with a string of Detroit-area ATM thefts dating back at least two years.

The update on the investigation was announced Friday by Detroit police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Dearborn police, state police and the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Investigators say they began to notice starting in February 2013 a pattern of robberies involving ATMs in the area. They say suspects would drive stolen vehicles through front doors of businesses and take the machines. A task force was formed in response.

ATMs were taken in Wayne County's Canton Township, Dearborn, Detroit, Hamtramck, Inkster, Melvindale, Southfield and Oak Park. Police say two people were arrested last month and two were arrested Thursday. Investigators say more arrests are likely.
