Judson's Spiritual Enrichment Week welcomes Bartlett pastor

Ian Simkins, pastor of Poplar Creek Church in Bartlett, will be the guest speaker during Judson's annual five-day Spiritual Enrichment Week that looks to recharge and re-engage Judson's chapel community.

Spiritual Enrichment Week will run Monday through Friday, Feb. 9-13, during the regular 10 a.m. chapel time at Herrick Chapel, 1151 N. State St. (Route 31), Elgin.

"For Spiritual Enrichment Week, we are tackling beauty that inhabits the ordinary, beauty in the common," said Christopher Lash, director of University Ministries.

"Can we be awe-struck and arrested within the everyday goings on of our lives? Is there a hint of the divine hidden behind what we consider mundane or uncomfortable? This week will combine original art, music, stories, and messages all discussing and interacting with these incredible questions."

Simkins, a 2006 graduate, will take on the theme of "Beauty in the Common" during this discourse as he examines the complexities of beauty that can be found in chaos, stillness, brokenness, healing, community, solitude and even pain.

Simkins served as the student ministries pastor at Poplar Creek Church for four years. He has now been the lead pastor of the church for more than eight.
