Friend: Carjack-killing suspect drove to buy heroin, shot up

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A woman accused of stealing a pickup truck at a suburban Detroit Burger King and running over the 76-year-old owner has been ordered tried on first-degree murder and carjacking charges.

A Waterford Township district judge says there's enough evidence to try 38-year-old Ruth Pozdol in Oakland County Circuit Court.

Authorities say Pozdol grabbed the keys from Clifford Van Haywald of Walled Lake and crushed him when he fell under the tires Jan. 18. She'd walked away from a nearby drug treatment center.

At a probable cause hearing, Mike Silagi testified he drove with Pozdol to a Subway restaurant for a sandwich, then accompanied her to buy and shoot up heroin.

Silagi says when he learned of Van Haywald's death, he advised Pozdol to surrender, then called police.
