Walker brings back $15 million in SeniorCare cuts

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican Gov. Scott Walker has resurrected his plan to cut $15 million from Wisconsin's prescription drug program for seniors.

Walker's 2015-17 budget includes provisions from his 2011-13 budget that would require SeniorCare enrollees to first sign up the for Medicare Part D. They could use SeniorCare to cover drugs that program doesn't. That plan would have saved $15 million over the two-year budget but the Legislature ultimately removed it from the budget.

A Walker spokeswoman stressed the plan doesn't eliminate SeniorCare. Still, Rep. Andy Jorgenson, a Milton Democrat, said in a statement that SeniorCare offers better discounts and Walker's plan would hurt seniors' pocketbooks.

A spokeswoman for Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said he wants to see more details. A spokeswoman for Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald didn't return a message.
