No charges for Michigan officers involved in fatal shooting

LANSING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Two Lansing Township police officers involved in a fatal shooting during a traffic stop in December have been cleared in the incident.

Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III announced Tuesday that no charges will be filed against officers Eric Lapham and Brad Braeutigam for the Dec. 8 traffic stop in which Lapham fatally shot 27-year-old Randall Minier Jr. of Lansing.

Investigators have said Minier displayed a gun before he was shot in the rear of the stopped vehicle. But driver Tyrell Washington has said Minier was not threatening officers and showed the gun simply to alert them that he had it.

Dunnings said it wasn't clear what Minier's intent was, but he ignored multiple verbal commands to drop his weapon after the officers realized he was armed.
