Naperville officers honored for saving teen during overdose

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Two Naperville police officers are being hailed heroes after saving a teenager's life by administering an anti-heroin overdose drug.

Officers Jason Duffy and Jeremy Womack were honored Tuesday night for reviving an unconscious 17-year-old girl suffering from a drug overdose last month. According to the Naperville Police Department, the officers had been trained and equipped with Narcan, a drug that can reverse the effects of an opiate overdose, just three days before the incident.

Authorities say the antidote has saved at least three dozen lives since the DuPage County Narcan Program began in November 2013.

Nearly 2,000 police officers throughout the county have received training to carry and administer Narcan in the event of an overdose.
