Authorities: Man, woman dead in apparent murder-suicide
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 69-year-old man apparently killed his 78-year-old girlfriend at her suburban Detroit home before fatally shooting himself.
The Macomb County sheriff's department identifies them as John M. Chiles and Hattie A. Marty.
The department says Chiles called 911 late Tuesday, saying he was going to kill himself. Deputies found him at the Macomb Township home with a gunshot wound to the head, and he died at a hospital.
Deputies found the woman's body in the basement.
The department says it believes Marty owned the house and Chiles was her longtime boyfriend. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says deputies responded to two earlier domestic violence cases involving them in 2007 and 2011 and made arrests then.
