Denis Hamlett added to Red Bulls coaching staff

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - Former Chicago coach Denis Hamlett has been hired by new Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch as his first assistant coach.

Hamlett was an assistant with the Fire when Marsch joined the team in 1998. Hamlett was interim coach in 2007, became head coach the following year and led the Fire to consecutive MLS Eastern Conference finals.

Hamlett also has coached at Vancouver and Montreal, where he was part of Marsch's staff in 2012.

New York announced the hiring Tuesday.
