Quincy to announce plans to mark city's 175th anniversary
QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The western Illinois city of Quincy is preparing to celebrate its 175th anniversary.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1zasPfz ) that city officials plan a kickoff event Tuesday afternoon. Mayor Kyle Moore is to announce a series of community events planned for this year. Moore says the city signed its articles of incorporation on Feb. 3, 1840.
Moore says a 30-member steering committee has been planning for the anniversary since May. He says the city wants to remember its past but also "look toward the future of what we're going to be."
The mayor says the events will be paid for with private donations and that he's spent the last several months raising money from corporate partners.
