Muncie celebrates city's 150th anniversary
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - The city of Muncie is marking its 150th anniversary.
A proclamation was read Monday night with Mayor Dennis Tyler and the Muncie City Council. The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/16rrOoZ ) that Tyler said Muncie has had "150 great years and we have more ahead of us."
Residents in Muncie voted 150 years ago Monday to turn the town into a city. Tyler read passages from a Delaware County history book recounting the vote. Middle school student Destiny Roberts read the mayor's sesquicentennial proclamation.
Events are planned throughout the year to mark the anniversary.
