Malaga beats Valencia 1-0 in Spanish league

MADRID (AP) - Samuel Castillejo gave Malaga a 1-0 home win against a 10-man Valencia when he scored his first goal of the season in the Spanish league on Monday.

Castillejo rose high to reach Samuel Garcia's cross and sent a lobbed header over goalkeeper Diego Alves in the 25th minute.

Malaga missed several chances to stretch its lead in both halves and dominated possession after Valencia defender Joao Cavaco Cancelo was sent off in the 75th because of a second yellow card for a clumsy tackle on Ignacio Camacho.

Valencia drops a place to fifth in the league on 41 points while Malaga is seventh on 35. Real Madrid leads the standings on 51 points with a game in hand that it is due to play against Sevilla on Wednesday.
