Macavoy's big game paces Elk Grove
Senior O'Rayn Macavoy enjoyed one of the finest games of her career with 14 points and 17 rebounds to help lead Elk Grove's girls basketball team past visiting Zion-Benton 45-41 on Saturday afternoon.
Nine of Macavoy's rebounds were at the offensive end.
Also reaching double figures for the Grens (7-15) was senior Amber Lindfors (13 points) while Ashley Sloan added 8 and Marjorie Sloan 6.
Palatine 44, Plainfield East 40: Seniors Monica Masini (5-of-5 free throws) and Katie Conklin (three 3-pointers) each scored 15 points to lead Palatine (13-12) to a 44-40 victory over visiting Plainfield East in the nonconference game.
Classmate Maria Charlier added 7 points for the winners.
Dundee-Crown 66, Hoffman Estates 65: Sophomore Monraia Wilson scored a game-high 27 points and freshman Tayler Williams added 14 for the visiting Hawks in the nonconference game in Carpentersville.
Jennifer Nailor contributed 8 points for Hoffman (4-17) while Erin Hanson and Mynk Richardson-Clerk each had 7.
Moline 37, Maine West 28: Allison Pearson (8 points, 5 rebounds), Catherine Johnson (6 points, 5 rebounds) and Jordan Hart (6 points) led Maine West (5-17) in the nonconference game in Des Plaines.
Pearson had a pair of 3-pointers while teammate Kayla Pociejewski had one.
Proviso East 61, Leyden 49: Alondra Chavarria (16 points), Cherish Sepulveda (12) and Gianna Grande (10) led the Eagles in the West Suburban Gold contest.
Friday's result: Wheeling posted a 55-42 victory over visiting Elk Grove on Friday night in the MSL East.
Senior Deanna Kuzmanic led the Wildcats (18-6, 4-4) with a game-high 22 points while classmate Hailey Dammeier chipped in 12.
Elk Grove (7-16, 0-8) was led by senior center Amber Lindfors (14 points) and junior guard Alex Masnica (10), who converted two 3-pointers.
