Kids can learn science of Groundhog Day
Children 6 to 10 years old can learn the astronomical basis for the popular myth of Groundhog Day at a Schaumburg Park District program Saturday, Feb. 7.
At "Phil Predicts the Future?", Spring Valley Nature Center Environmental Education Assistant Derek Gronlund will explain how light, shadow and the angle at which the sun's rays hit the Earth this time of year affect climate and weather.
The program, named for legendary Pennsylvania groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. that day at the Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.
Pre-registration is required. The cost is $8 for residents and $12 for non-residents.
