Waukegan man indicted in girlfriend's shooting death
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A grand jury has indicted a Waukegan man on first-degree murder charges after authorities say he shot his girlfriend in the face at a bar as their 9-year-old daughter looked on.
The Lake County News-Sun (http://trib.in/1A6MgYp ) reports that Lake County authorities say 23-year-old Roberto C. Romero shot his girlfriend, Elpidia Munoz-Garcia, after an argument Jan. 2. He was indicted Wednesday.
Assistant State's Attorney Carolina DeLeon-Bond says Romero shot Munoz-Garcia two or three times when his parents arrived to try to take back a gun he had taken from their home earlier in the night. Prosecutors say he acknowledged shooting Munoz-Garcia after a minor argument.
Romero is being held on $3 million bail in Lake County Jail. The Lake County Jail did not have an attorney listed for Romero.
