Judge won't intervene in transfer of U. Iowa law employee

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A judge says he won't second-guess the University of Iowa's decision to reassign an employee who is suing for political discrimination.

U.S. District Judge James Gritzner denied Teresa Wagner's request to be returned to the law school's writing center. Gritzner cancelled a hearing that had been set for next week.

Wagner has pursued a lawsuit against school officials for years claiming that she was unfairly denied a faculty job because of her conservative Republican views. The case is scheduled for a second trial in March.

In November, the university transferred Wagner out of her eight-year writing center job to the main library, after she feuded with a supervisor. Wagner contended the move was retaliation and sought legal relief.

Gritzner says Wagner's reassignment was a separate incident involving different university officials.
