Crundwell court filing says she wants to keep horse trophies

DIXON, Ill. (AP) - Rita Crundwell's attorney says the imprisoned former Dixon comptroller wants to keep about 700 trophies she won during horse competitions.

Crundwell is serving 20 years in federal prison for stealing nearly $54 million from the northern Illinois city over two decades. She was ordered to pay it back in restitution.

The (Dixon) Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/1CTrPxY ) attorney Ruth Robinson made a court filing Wednesday arguing the trophies and other smaller items shouldn't be included in the restitution. Robinson argues the items lack value and wouldn't benefit the city.

As of Dec. 26 the city has received about $9.3 million in restitution. That figure includes the sale of Crundwell's property, homes and horses.

Last week a federal judge ordered about $90,000 of Crundwell's retirement fund reimbursements be turned over for restitution.
