Neighborhood profile features Red Bridge Farm, Lake Zurich

An attractive neighborhood with good-size homes where kids can walk or ride their bikes to the elementary school, parks and library make the Red Bridge Farm subdivision an ideal location to settle and raise a family.

Situated on Buesching Road south of Route 22 in Lake Zurich, the subdivision features 109 homes built in the late 1980s by Burnside Construction Co. Homes feature 1,700 to 2,400 square feet, three to four bedrooms and mostly 2½ baths along with a two- or three-car garage.

These homes have open floor plans with cathedral ceilings, large yards and a lot of trees. Also, the subdivision has sidewalks, which is important for a lot of people, said Kasia Zajec, broker associate with Century 21 American Sketchbook in Lake Zurich.

"Red Bridge Farm is a newer subdivision designed for kids to be able to walk to Sarah Adams Elementary School, which is a big attraction for buyers," said Zajec, who with her family is also a resident of the neighborhood. "People also love all the parks, playgrounds and sports fields nearby."

Twenty-five years ago when Lake Zurich was a fast-growing community, Suzy and Bill Marshalla purchased a home being built in the neighborhood when it was new. They liked being able to select their cabinetry and some of the finishes in their home.

"We have a creek behind us and along the side of our house that flows into a pond. We like the natural area and privacy in the subdivision," Suzy Marshalla said.

"We had no children when we bought our house, but we knew it was a good place for us to raise our kids, and I liked having the neighborhood school and park."

Because the subdivision was new, there were a lot of kids living here, and it's still very attractive to young families who are moving in with school-age kids, Marshalla said.

Zajec notes that there is also a preschool in the neighborhood close to the elementary school. Zajec's two children went from preschool through high school in Lake Zurich with another child graduating from Lake Zurich High School this year. "We've been very happy with the schools here," she said.

"I like my neighbors and the subdivision where there's a lot of green places and a beautiful library nearby. We feel safe here, and a lot of people are out walking their dogs and walking for exercise. I can always count on my neighbors if I need anything."

Once a year Zajec's block has a block party, usually held the last Sunday before school starts in the fall. There are attractions for kids and parents, and firefighters and the police talk with the kids and show them their vehicles.

Recreation in Lake Zurich includes the lake area with the 41-acre Paulus Park, skate park, sledding hill and the beach and activities through the parks and recreation department. Many community events take place at Paulus Park, including Fourth of July Family Day and Ela Festival of Arts.

For shopping, many national retailers, grocery stores and services sit along Rand Road, as do several popular restaurants and a movie theater. Also, the subdivision is situated near Deer Park Town Center, a destination for shopping, dining and taking in a movie.
