Walker announces support for various rural projects

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker says he will propose spending more money to help rural schools, expand broadband in underserved areas of Wisconsin and do more to train workers and invest in rural parts of the state.

Walker outlined some of his plans Wednesday in a speech to those from the Chippewa Valley area who were in Madison to lobby lawmakers.

Walker says he will increase state aid that goes to rural schools and put in $5 million more to pay for transportation costs for rural schools.

He also plans to propose spending $55 million on revolving loans to benefit regional economic development organizations and $24 million to reduce water pollution.

Walker also promised $15 million in matching state money to help pay for the proposed Confluence Arts Center in Eau Claire.
