New boathouse completed for Eastern Michigan's rowing squad

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - A new boathouse has been completed for Eastern Michigan University's rowing squad as part of a bigger park renovation project.

The Ypsilanti school says exterior construction has finished on the rowing hub in Lakeside Park at Ford Lake. It will be used by the Eagles and Saline High School.

The 6,000-square foot boathouse will function as a meeting area for crew teams, provide public restrooms and serve as a storage facility. The boathouse will be open for team use in early March and a ribbon cutting ceremony will follow shortly afterward.

Other park work includes the extension of links to regional trails, a new pavilion, fishing docks and lookouts over Ford Lake. Ypsilanti Township, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Eastern Michigan worked on the park and boathouse project.
