Clinton County officials warn residents of phone call scam
CLINTON, Iowa (AP) - Officials in an eastern Iowa community are warning residents to beware phone call scammers posing as someone with the sheriff's office and demanding them to pay unpaid traffic tickets.
Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln tells the Quad-City Times (http://bit.ly/1EOQEKH ) that several people received calls over the weekend from a man saying they needed to pay off tickets generated by a traffic enforcement camera in Clinton.
Lincoln says the man had threatened a person with arrest if they didn't make an immediate payment.
The sheriff says there are no traffic enforcement cameras in the county. He adds no law enforcement officers collect fines and make phone calls to collect them.
Anyone who receives a call is asked to report it to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.
