Waterloo may seek grant to restore firefighter positions
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - The Waterloo department wants to seek a federal grant to restore three firefighters jobs cut from this year's budget.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1Brm74u ) that the City Council will be asked at Monday's meeting to approve the grant submission.
The grant would cover the full cost of three firefighters for two years, including wages, benefits and incidentals. The city would not be required to keep the positions when the grant expires.
The council voted in March to cut three firefighter jobs through attrition. That resulted in the city periodically closing Station No. 6.
