Iowa teen accused of attacking grandmother gets probation

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - An 18-year-old Newton woman who was accused of attacking her grandmother has been given a deferred judgment and two years of probation.

The Newton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1zhyvqf ) that Rachel Scott was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to a felony charge of forgery. Charges of domestic assault and unauthorized use of a credit card were dropped in exchange for her plea. Under a deferred sentence, Scott's conviction will be expunged from her record if she successfully completes probation.

Court records say that Scott was living with her 69-year-old grandmother last July when she stole her debit card and forged a check in her grandmother's name. The records say that Scott was confronted, she punched her grandmother in the face and knocked her down.
