Battle Creek man credited for saving 10-year-old boy in pool

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) - A Battle Creek man is being credited for helping to save the life of a 10-year-old spotted at the bottom of a southwestern Michigan hotel pool.

St. Joseph police responded Saturday night to Silver Beach Hotel following a report of a possible drowning. They say Melvin Jackson of Benton Harbor was visiting the hotel to celebrate a cousin's birthday when he became unresponsive in the pool.

Police say 29-year-old Tim Rose initially thought the boy was holding his breath. Rose soon dove into the pool and brought Melvin to the surface, with the help of other bystanders, and performed CPR.

Police say the boy started breathing on his own after about two minutes of CPR. He was conscious when officers arrived. The boy was treated and released at a hospital.
