Chief of Rogers Police Department succumbs to cancer

ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - The chief of the Rogers Police Department has died after a long struggle with cancer.

Rogers Chief of Police James H. Allen died Thursday morning. His death was announced in a news release issued by Rogers Police Capt. Hayes Minor.

Allen had served with the Rogers Police Department since April 2011. Prior to that, he was the chief of police at the Bentonville Police Department for 22 years.

The statement says funeral services will take place in Rogers but that no date has yet been set. Interment will occur at the Bentonville Cemetery.

Minor praised Allen as "a tremendous law enforcement leader" who touched the lives and careers of many police officers "over a distinguished and honorable career."
