Workshop to show residents how to buy vacant city property

DETROIT (AP) - A workshop is being offered to help Detroit residents navigate the process of buying vacant property in the city.

The Land Forum workshop is scheduled Tuesday at the Eastside Community Network offices.

The Greening of Detroit, LOVELAND Technologies, Michigan Community Resources, Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights, and the Wayne State University Law School's Program for Entrepreneurship and Business Law are behind the workshop.

Organizers say the forum is a "traveling workshop designed to demystify the process of buying vacant Detroit property and to build a cohort of informed buyers from the community." Each workshop takes place in a different neighborhood roughly once every six weeks.

Detroit's Land Bank is holding fairs to sell side lots to residents living next to the properties.
