Police: Milwaukee woman drove getaway car to be 'helpful'

MILWAUKEE (AP) - A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman charged in a fatal robbery allegedly told police she agreed to drive a getaway vehicle because she wanted to be helpful.

Jerica Cotton was charged Monday with felony murder and armed robbery. She's accused of driving 19-year-old Kenneth Thomas and 28-year-old Darrin Malone to the Waukesha gas station where the robbery took place on Jan. 13. A criminal complaint says Cotton agreed to drive the men in exchange for $50.

The complaint alleges Thomas fatally shot the clerk, 65-year-old Saeed Sharwani. Thomas is charged with several crimes, including first-degree intentional homicide and armed robbery.

Thomas, Malone and Cotton are suspected in at least six robberies across Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Police are still searching for Malone, who's considered armed and dangerous.

It wasn't immediately clear if Cotton has an attorney yet. A message seeking comment was left Monday night with Thomas' attorney.
