Man arrested after leading police on car chase near Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Police say a man has been arrested after leading officers on a short chase that ended with him driving his car into a field where it caught fire.

Authorities say officers pulled the 36-year-old man over for a traffic violation on Monday night near Waterloo. They say the man attempted to flee officers by driving off, but that his vehicle went off the road and into a field.

Police say the man tried to evade officers again by running away. Officers caught up to the man, arrested him and took him to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Officials say the man was wanted on a probation violation in Black Hawk County. An investigation is ongoing.
