Bail set for Elgin man in chase

Bail was set at $50,000 Monday for Claude R. Thompson, 23, of the 1300 block of Maroon Drive, Elgin, who was arrested Sunday in Elgin after police said he took them on a 45-minute chase in his car and then on foot.

Thompson must post $5,000 bond to be released from jail while the charges are pending.

Charges have not been filed against Thompson's passenger, police said.

Thompson is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, marijuana possession and other traffic offenses. He faces anywhere from probation to three years in prison if convicted, and is next due in court Feb. 4.
