DuPage Children's Museum to stay shuttered until April

The DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville will remain closed until at least April as crews continue working to repair damage from earlier this month when a water line burst and flooded all three floors.

Museum officials originally had hoped to reopen within a few weeks of the Jan. 8 incident, but that's proving impossible.

"The extensive water damage and financial implications to the museum are significant, and though the museum is insured for these kinds of disasters, as of this moment, we are sorting out what has to be replaced and business losses suffered," President and CEO Sarah Orleans said in a statement released Friday.

She said the museum plans a ribbon cutting and grand reopening celebration in April.

The museum hired Spectrum Restoration Services of Aurora to remove the water and make repairs at the building.

The museum is continuing to offer off-site programs and is urging residents to follow its progress at www.dupagechildrensmuseum.org.
