DNR: Winter sports enthusiasts should check ice conditions
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is warning winter sports enthusiasts to watch out for unstable ice with warmer weather heading in to some parts.
April Dombrowski, the safety section chief with the DNR's Bureau of Law Enforcement, says it's best to call a local fishing club, snowmobilers group or bait shop before going out on the ice.
Wisconsin Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/1KSlkyO ) temperatures this weekend are expected to hit the 30-degree range in some areas, which might affect ice thickness.
DNR officials don't monitor local conditions due to the large number and differing sizes of Wisconsin's lakes and rivers.
