Beloit police: Man steals car with baby inside

BELOIT, Wis. (AP) - Beloit police say they've arrested a 22-year-old man for stealing a vehicle with a baby inside.

The Beloit Daily News reports the vehicle was reported stolen from a Beloit gas station at about 5:50 p.m. Friday.

Police say an 8-year-old child was able to escape the vehicle at the time of the theft, but a 10-month-old infant was still inside.

A few minutes later, police and Rock County sheriff's deputies were called to the Turtle Township where the vehicle had crashed into a machine shed. Neighbors were able to retrieve the infant, who had minor abrasions and was taken to a local hospital.

The man, from Milton, was arrested at the scene.
