Judson choir starts January tour
The Judson University Choir is embarking on its first January tour in quite some time, and choir director Warren J. Anderson of the Center for Worship in the Performing Arts is pleased to be doing so.
The January tour will remain in the state but will include a variety of churches that are all associated with current or former Judson students.
"Founding Judson Choir Director Dr. Ed Thompson did three tours every year when we had a J-term," Anderson said. "And then sometimes he'd take off on a May-term international trip, to boot.
"With more than 90 in the choir these days, we felt we had to add a tour to allow for each student to be able to go on at least one of the two shorter tours. I am grateful to the Judson University administration for its support of this strategy."
The January tour will begin with a 7 p.m. concert on Friday, Jan. 23, at Village Church of Bartlett, 601 W. Bartlett Road, where current Judson student Matthew Camerer serves as worship leader.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the choir ministers at First Southern Baptist Church, 3521 DeWitt Ave. in Mattoon, the home church of Judson student Matthew Calio. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
On Sunday morning, Jan. 25, First Baptist Church of Champaign at Savoy, 1602 Prospect, which is pastored by longtime Judson trustee and alumnus the Rev. Randy Gauger, hosts the choir for the morning services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m.
On Sunday night, Jan. 25, the choir will sing at First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road in Rockford, the home church of choir members Andrew Boettcher, Bethany Cooper, Olivia Randall, and Spencer Timmons.
