ECU promotes 4 assistants after Riley's exit

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - East Carolina has promoted Dave Nichol to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Coach Ruffin McNeill on Thursday also promoted Donnie Kirkpatrick to assistant head coach, Brandon Jones to run game coordinator and Garrett Riley to outside receivers coach.

The moves came after offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley left to take the same position at Oklahoma.

Nichol had coached the Pirates' outside receivers since 2012. Kirkpatrick will continue to coach inside receivers and coordinate recruiting, while Jones also will remain the offensive line coach.

Riley - the younger brother of Lincoln Riley - had been an offensive graduate assistant with the Pirates.

McNeill says the moves "will aid us in scheme continuity, coaching language and recruiting cohesiveness."
