Newborn dies; woman told police she didn't know of pregnancy
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - Police in Battle Creek say a newborn boy has died after being delivered at a home by a woman who told them she didn't know that she was pregnant.
Detective Sgt. Jim Martens tells the Battle Creek Enquirer that the baby was unresponsive when officers arrived shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The baby was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is planned.
The 32-year-old woman is being treated at a hospital, where the Kalamazoo Gazette reports she was listed in stable condition.
Police say an investigation is ongoing.
