Industrial company to demolish 4 historic Iowa buildings

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - An industrial service company has decided to demolish four historic buildings on a Burlington thoroughfare.

The Hawk Eye newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1ygWu6R ) Frank Millard Co. will soon take down the historic Burlington buildings to construct new workspaces to expand its manufacturing services. The company purchased two of the buildings in June 2014, and the others this year.

The buildings were constructed in the late 1800s. They are said to be prime examples of the so-called Renaissance Revival style of architecture, particularly because of their hooded windows.

The building are in usable condition, but company president Mac Coffin says they can't be changed to meet his company's needs.

Coffin says the goal when designing the new buildings is to maintain an old building aesthetic.
