Exam: Man competent to stand trial in father's hammer death

BELOIT, Wis. (AP) - A psychological exam finds a Beloit man competent to stand trial on charges he beat his father to death with a hammer last summer.

Prosecutors requested the evaluation of 30-year-old Peter Hemmy. Hemmy is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the Aug. 25 killing of his father, 58-year-old Bruce Hemmy.

At a hearing Tuesday, defense attorney Jason Daane said he still has questions about the evaluation and wants to conduct his own exam.

But Daane says Hemmy won't meet with a defense evaluator. The Beloit Daily News (http://bit.ly/154Aosi ) reports the judge scheduled a hearing Feb. 11 for the defense to question the prosecution's evaluator.

Police say Hemmy told investigators he was angry with his parents because they were moving to an apartment and he could no longer live with them.
