Victim identified in St. Charles fire
Authorities are investigating the cause and origin of a St. Charles apartment fire that killed a 60-year-old man Sunday morning.
David Hawksley, who had lung cancer and used a wheelchair, died in the blaze, and his cause of death is still under investigation, according to the Kane County coroner's office.
St. Charles Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet estimated the damage at $50,000 for the apartment and contents on the 100 block of South Third Avenue.
Schelstreet said the apartment is not inhabitable now but will be able to be rebuilt.
"At this point in time, we don't believe (the fire) is suspicious," he said.
