Transcripts of Jodi Arias' closed-door testimony is released
PHOENIX (AP) - Officials on Tuesday released transcripts of closed-door testimony given two months ago by convicted murderer Jodi Arias during her sentencing retrial.
The transcripts include Arias testifying about her interactions with victim Travis Alexander, her boyfriend, when the two first met at a business conference in Las Vegas in September 2006.
Arias also described their first sexual encounter less than two weeks later in the San Diego area, where both were attending a house party.
Arias also discussed how Alexander encouraged her to read about the Mormon religion. According to her testimony, their texts and emails often went from spiritual to flirtatious.
All those details were previously revealed during public testimony by Arias.
Maricopa County Judge Sherry Stephens had barred the public from watching some testimony after saying the witness, whose name was then kept secret, was skittish and wouldn't testify unless the courtroom was closed.
News organizations protested the closure and the transcripts were released weeks after an appeals court ordered the move.
Arias was convicted last year in the murder of Alexander, but jurors deadlocked on her punishment.
A new jury has been picked to decide whether she should be sentenced to life in prison or receive the death penalty.
