Suspended office accused in deadly crash misses hearing

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A suspended central Indiana police officer charged with causing a crash that killed a man and injured his pregnant wife missed his latest court hearing.

Madison Circuit Court Judge David Happe told Edgewood Officer James Foutch's public defender Monday that his client must attend all future hearings.

The Herald Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/1u2ZuhE ) Happe rescheduled Foutch's trial from May 26 to Sept. 15 on felony charges that include causing death while driving intoxicated.

Authorities say Foutch was off duty and under the influence of an anti-anxiety drug and a painkiller when his SUV going 92 mph plowed into the rear of a car near Anderson.

That crash killed 23-year-old Jesse Sperry of Noblesville and injured his 22-year-old wife, Rebecca Sperry, who gave birth that day to a daughter by emergency C-section.
