Police probe officers' taped beating of handcuffed suspect

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit's police chief says Michigan State Police will investigate the video recorded beating of a handcuffed carjacking suspect.

Monday's beating in Detroit involved two plain-clothed officers from other agencies in an auto theft task force that also includes Grosse Pointe Park, Harper Woods and Highland Park.

The video posted on Facebook shows the man lying face down in the snow and shows officers beating him after he calls out, "Jesus."

One officer kneels on the man's back while warning him not to dare "calling Jesus."

The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/1FRhRk6 ) quotes Grosse Pointe Park police Chief David Hiller as saying it appears the officers acted properly because the man had a gun in his waistband.

Detroit police Chief James Craig says Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy requested a state police investigation.
